Meet the staff

Janet - pre-school leader

My two elder children attended Old London Road Pre-school.  My youngest son was due to start there in September 1999, when I heard it was going to close down.  So I left my job and decided to re-launch it.  I have worked with children since 1981 and enjoy watching them grow and develop in their own way.  My favourite book is The Elves and the Shoemaker and my favourite song is Love is Like a Magic Penny.  What I like best about my job is its unpredictability - even if I try to plan something I never actually do it as the children send me off in a different direction.

Wendy

I have worked in childcare for over 20 years.  I started work as a private nanny, became a registered childminder, trained as a classroom assistant and then moved into pre-schools.  The best thing about working with children is the unexpected.  My own children (I have four daughters aged 13-21) have given me the best training for the job.  My favourite story is The Blue Balloon and my favourite song is There was a princess long ago.  I like dogs and the colours blue and purple.  I run a girls' brigade company in my spare time and enjoy cooking and music.

Elaine

I have worked with children for 12 years - and started at Old London Road Pre-school in 2004.  I have two teenage sons, and first thought about working with children when I helped out in their classrooms at primary school.  Having my own children is the best training I could have had for my job.  I find working with children very rewarding and challenging - what I like best about it is seeing them grow and flourish, and working with the other staff.  I like the colour turquoise, rabbits and eating pasta.  My favourite song is Wind the Bobbin Up.

Debbie

I have been at Old London Road for 6 years now, and love the fact that the children are so enthusiastic and inspiring - always full of surprises.  I like cats and the colour blue, and The Faraway Tree Stories is my favourite book.  The best thing about my job is seeing each child develop new skills in the time they are with us.  I have two sons, aged 11 and 13, who have been the best training I could have had for this job

Sarah

I started working at Old London Road in the summer term of 2008.  I have a 5 year old daughter Becky and a new baby due in July.  I love working with the children and seeing them develop so quickly.  At Old London Road they all play so well together and seem to adore the staff.  My favourite colour is pink - the brighter the better!  My favourite story is The Gruffalo, in-fact I could read it over and over again.  In my spare time I enjoy sailing, travelling, and watching Rugby.

I have been working in childcare for over 20 years.  I came to work at Old London Road after hearing lovely things through one of the parents.  My favourite story book character is Kipper and my favourite children's story is Peace At Last.  In my spare time I like to read and swim.  I find my job very rewarding.  Every day is different and so much fun.

Sharon

I started working at Old London Road when my second son was attending and I was asked if I would like to stay.  I am currently studying for an NVQ level 2 in childcare learning and development, but my most valuable training has been having three children of my own.  My favourite children's song is Magic Penny and my favourite food is a cup of tea and custard cream biscuits.

Ros

I came to work at Old London Road when I was searching for a school for my daughter and found an advert on the website.  The best thing about working with children is to see them blossom, and children do say the most amazing things.  My hobbies are digital scrapbooking, gardening and reading.

We always aim to have above the minimum required ratio.

Training

We actively encourage staff to continually update their skills by attending training workshops and conferences on a range of subject.  Different members of staff have recently enjoyed learning more about outdoor play, child protection and cultural diversity amongst other things.
